After 11 hours on a plane we finally arrived in Istanbul. Our cabbie took the scenic drive along the Sea of Marmara. It’s a beautiful day here and so many people were in the park picnicking, walking, or couples snuggled up under a tree. I have never seen do many women in head scarves. The colors were stunning. Just from the drive we could see Asia, the little Hagia Sophia and the fish market. It was unusual, well at least for us to see hundreds of cargo ships in the sea.
We checked into our hotel, and even though so many people told us don’t worry, lots of people speak English, I’m wishing I learned some Turkish. We’ve struggled a little.
We decided to walk the streets, get our bearings, find a place to eat and take some photos. We are in an awesome location. Just 3 blocks from us was the Grand Bizarre…yes I’ve already scoped out a mosaic chandelier for my dining room. The streets are narrow, cobblestone filled with people trying to lure you into their store to just take a look. The rule is to never pay the initial asking price. We met a Syrian man who left his country because of the turmoil to open a jewelry store. I tried on a bunch of things cause I can’t pass up fun jewelry, but didn’t buy anything.
Then just a few more blocks away was the Blue Mosque. It’s magnificent. So many people were out and about – walking, smoking, eating corn, taffy, desserts. I have photos on my camera to show everyone later
Glad you’re enjoying good weather, You must try the baklava; it’s sinfully delicious!

Sounds like a great time so far! Can’t wait to see your photos – I am looking things up as you name them to try to picture things better. I am sure the chandelier is beautiful! 🙂
