Day 2 in St Thomas

We started our day slowly this morning with an agreement that everyone wanted to sleep in after yesterday’s drama and travel time. There was a beautiful rainbow stretching across Charlotte Amalie. Joanne and I want to the Havensight Mall to find the gourmet supermarket, breakfast at the Barefoot Buddha and buying some earrings for me and a beautiful black linen shirt for her.

When we returned to Bluebeards, Sue and Carolyn were eating breakfast at the pool, and T was still sleeping (jet lag). We decided to go to Megan’s Bay, so packed up the car, stopped back at the stores for snacks, a hat and a few other things before we hit the road.

Now if your not familiar with the driving around the island, it takes a bit to get used to. The roads are narrow, curved, steep and to add more fun, they drive on the left. I offered to be the driver, if everyone helped me, so we created a song that everyone sings to help me drive on the left. It feels so good to sing, laugh and hang with my ‘bitches’. We arrived at the beach around 2:00, ate lunch at the restaurant there, found a place on the beach to sit on the beach, and it started to rain. Everyone grabbed our stuff, went under a tree for shelter, and I went in the water. It was cool, not too cool for me, but too cold for everyone else. Years of competitive swimming means I can handle a wide variety of water temperatures, especially when it’s hot out.

When it stopped, everyone settled in, enjoying the beach. Carolyn, Sue and T walked the length of the beach, Jo and I enjoyed watching some young girls singing and playing in the water. One of their songs became our song of the day, ‘You’re a Ho’. Talia, added her own entertainment, as she doesn’t like the feel of sand on her feet. Hard to get away from on the beach.

After a few hours and another rain shower, we decided to head back to the room. We showered, got dressed and decided to go to Bolongo Bay, Lobster Grill for dinner. On the drive out, all of a sudden the street lights went out, actually, all lights were out. We learned that this is common on the island. It made for a treacherous drive on those winding roads. We couldn’t find the restaurant, entered the wrong parking lot, tried google maps, and that took us to the wrong place. Our iphone flashlights were just perfect. Poor Sue started feeling nauseated and almost tossed her cookies. We finally found it, and had a lovely dinner…lobster, shrimp scampi, dessert and a lot of laughter.

It was 76 degrees here today, and we heard the Philly area is getting 4-6 inches of snow tomorrow. Damn glad we’re here.
