Travel to Kauai

Yesterday was a long day and started off well. We left the house at 5am to catch a 6:30 flight. Our flight to Phoenix and then Honolulu went well, just long (10 hours). Our next leg was to get bags and take a short flight on Hawaiian Airlines to Kauai. We had a few hours to between the flights and ended up needing them. Usairways lost mom’s luggage. But what was weird, was a very similar bag arrived in Hawaii with our baggage claim stickers on it. We think they may have been mislabeled in Philly. We found out that moms bag is in AUA, Aruba with a woman named Roxanne. Hopefully she figures she has the wrong bag too.

So of course there’s nothing we can do except wait. Fortunately mom packed a carry on with shorts, t-shirts, shoes and pjs. Our flight to Kauai was only 20 minutes, but a beautiful one. We took off at 5:30pm (5 hours behind east coast time – so 11:30 at home). What made it beautiful was the sun set.

We got our bags, rented a car, and began our drive to Princeville, about 45 min north of the airport. By the time we got to the car it was dark. We stopped in Walai at the Wahoo Seafood and Grill and had a lovely dinner. We had some difficulty finding the resort, especially with no street lamps and poorly marked streets. Made a few wrong turns, and increase in frustration, finally made it.

We have a condo with a king size bed, living room and kitchen. We fell asleep, or should I say crashed, utterly exhausted around 10:15pm (3am ET).

Today we plan on driving around to get our bearings, shopping and of course taking in the true beauty of the Garden Island. Carol, George, Pat and Vic arrive sometime today.
