Day 7 – Kauai

It’s our last say here, then we’re off to Maui. We all slept in this morning for a change. We had 9:00 reservations at the St Regis. Ie was cloudy when we first arrived but cleared up while we were eating. The panoramic views of Hanalei Bay were gorgeous. There were about 10 surfers in the water, still enjoying the northern swells. Breakfast was incredible. A few of us had the Kauai North Shore Loco Moco that was a crab cake served over rice with a fried egg on top with shrimp gravy. Carol ate blueberry taro pancakes, and Pat a crispy poached egg over smoked salmon with hollandaise sauce. Yes, we have all decided that were eating our way through Hawaii.

After breakfast we went to the post office so mom could mail a few things home. Then we went to Anini Beach, while everyone else went to the lighthouse and had lunch at Bubba Burgers. It became a beautiful day to be at the beach. I finally got mom in the water snorkeling, but because of the northern swells and the current, it was not very clear. We had difficulty even standing still and swimming against the current was difficult. We have a fondness for this beach, the shade, the calm waters, and the view of the lighthouse. We stayed on the beach until about 4 before heading home.

We all gathered for dinner at the Postcard Cafe in Hanalei. I had a spiny lobster tail with fennel on top. Pat and George’s wasabi ahi and Carols monchong fish were delicious. After we got home the packing began. At least we get to enjoy a few days in Maui next.
