Day 2 – Barcelona, Parc Güell and Museum de Xocolata

We had a good night sleep last night and needed it. We started our day with breakfast at Cafeteria Don Tel on our street. We all ended up ordering breakfast sandwiches which were basically a baguette, cheese and Jamon pressed like a panini.

We went to the Parc Güell next but unfortunately couldn’t get tickets until 6:30pm, so instead we walked around the free part for a few hours. There were winding stone staircases with stone archways, we listened to a band play under some of the arches. We visited the house that Gaudi lived in for 20 years. I didn’t mention yet that it was hot, very hot and therefore and meant a lot of sweating.

We left and decided to head to the Museum de Xocolata next during our free time. The ticket to enter the Museum was a piece of chocolate that you had to scan. Very cute. The tour was about 40 minutes and there were so many chocolate sculptures. We saw the Virgin Mary with Jesus and Chicken Little. And of course we couldn’t leave without buying chocolate and having the most delicious hot chocolate with either a croissant or dipping biscuits. We were in heaven.

Feeling fulfilled, we didn’t need lunch, so went back to the apt to rest, and get ready to back for Parc Güell. We got there with plenty of time. It was thoroughly enjoyable, but unfortunately some of it was under construction, so we didn’t get see it all. We walked up many more steps. First were the dragon staircase which led to the Hypostyle room. On the staircase we saw the lizard covered with decorative mosaic tiles. We didn’t see much of the Hypostyle room, but is made of 86 columns. It was designed to be a market got the estate. We walked through the Porters House, and the other building right next to it.

I found a cute restaurant serving basque tapas called Gasterea in Gràcia on Yelp. It had good reviews So we decided to give it a shot, they didn’t have tables so we weren’t excited about sitting at a counter to eat, but we figured we’d give it a try. And we were glad we did. It was amazing. Not only were the people very friendly, everything we tried was good. We ordered about 10 different plates, from honey chicken with saffron rice, goat cheese with figs, ham and Brie, fried calamari, flank steak casserole and eggplant with spicy cheese, and more. We left quite full.
