Day 4 – Last Day on the Big Island – August 24

For our last day on this island, we decided to go to the Waipio Lookout on the north eastern side of the island. The terrain on the drive was unique. When we arrived there was a steep incline to walk down to the viewing area. Mom and Josie chose not to make the walk, and stayed by the car in the shade. The cliffs were gorgeous and the black sand beaches look stunning when the white waves crash on them. I’m still a little partial to the Na Pali Coast myself.

We saw a fruit stand on the way to lunch. They cut and prepared the fruit to order so it took a little bit. But it included guava, lychee, star fruit, sour sap, bananas, papaya, dragon fruit, and we got 2 halves of a coconut and coconut water.

For lunch, we went to the Fish and the Hog in Waimea. We started off, going to a different restaurant, but some of the members in the car, were not satisfied with the way that it looked from the outside. This restaurant was a combination barbecue meats and Hawaiian fish. A number of people ordered fish tacos, and other people ordered barbecued ribs and bbq’d chicken. I think the best part of the meal was the cornbread. It was moist with this yummy butter on top and I had green chilies in it, and it wasn’t terribly spicy. Bowman and I ordered a lava frozen drink, but the waitress changed it up a little bit and used dragon fruit. It was delicious and very pink. I forgot to mention, a man at the restaurant who may have worked there was flirting with Josie. It was cute.

After we got home we went in different directions. Bowman, John, Patrick and Dany went to the beach and Mom and I went to the pool. Josie took a nap. Bowman and John got a call from Julian saying he was free and would love to go to dinner with them. So they met up at the restaurant near the beach club, I was still full from lunch and didn’t want to eat anything, and neither did Mom. But they had a lovely time together, which was nice.

Unfortunately the rest of the evening was spent cleaning, trashing things and packing as we had to leave the big island and head to Kauai tomorrow morning. Our plane was leaving at 8:45 AM so we left the house around 6.
