Day 5 – Kauai – August 25, 2025

We left the house at 6 AM this morning to catch a plane at 8:45 to Kauai. Coincidentally after dropping off the rental cars, we all arrived at the airport at the same time. There was definitely some drama going on, but we were not sure what it was, decided to stay out of it and went to check our bags. Best part was that it was a 45 minute flight. We were there in no time. We grabbed our bags went to the rental car place again booked two cars. There’s a story behind that but that’s another time, and hit the road. Patrick wanted to stop at the Wailua Meat Company to pick up 6 pounds of organic grass fed and ground beef and two dozen eggs. The man likes his protein. Fortunately, they made it just in time for them to get what they needed. I arrived 10-ish minutes after they had found the food. So it was good timing.

On the way there, we passed an overlook to the Opaeka’a Falls, so we decided to stop and see it. It hasn’t been rainy so the falls were on the smaller side. It started to get very hot.

We were hungry and decided to get lunch/breakfast at a local restaurant. It was not overly exciting and I wouldn’t recommend it. We got back in the car and stopped a few places to take a few photos on our way such as

On our way to Princeville we were either on Route 56 or 560. This highway is the main road along the north and east shores of Kauai. It is known for its scenic views, including lush valleys and coastal stretches. The road features narrow sections and one-lane bridges, particularly on the North Shore beyond Hanalei. The mountains in the background are characteristic of Kauai’s rugged, rainforest-covered terrain.

When we arrived in Princeville, we got ice cream at Lappert’s, which is Bowman‘s favorite ice cream place. It was also her birthday and she’d been there 35 years ago, so we had to go again. Next we went to the Foodland to pick up some drinks and snacks and the regular stuff. It was finally almost 4 o’clock, so we hope you were able to check in early. We checked into the Makai Club resort, learned all the rules and what was available to us. We are happy to learn that we didn’t have to carry our luggage up three flights of stairs and we only had to do it up a small flight. So we unpacked the car. It was very hot here, over 90° and so we needed to chill and cool down and some people took naps.

For dinner, we went over to a restaurant in Princeville called Lotus, which was a Thai/Chinese place. We were hoping to sit in a restaurant, but it was only takeout so we ordered bubble drinks and then when our food arrived, we went home and ate it together. Patrick and Dany went to Hanalei Bay and did their own thing.

Tomorrow we have our Na Pali Sunset cruise and still need to decide what we’ll do along the way.
