Mom and I were not feeling great this morning so we had a chill day at the place because we weren’t really up for food or walking around in the bathroom. Bowman and John started off their adventure on the Hanalei Bay where they admired the scenery of the beach and decided it was too hot to stay because there wasn’t the same shade that there was at Anini beach. They walked to the left side of the beach, called Waikoko Beach until they go any further to get some great photos.
Stopped at the Hanalei Valley Lookout to get some photos of the fields of tarot in the mountain. They also found Elvis, well an artist was painting a picture of young Elvis, which they knew Ginger would like. Near the lookout they found a one lane metal bridge that they drove over.

The Kilauea point national wildlife refuge, but also had a lighthouse . The Ranger was very helpful after that she saw them park in the handicap spot. She brought a golf cart to take them closer to the point and provided them with lots of fun facts along the way about the lighthouse in the birds.
This is where they saw their first Ne Ne, the state bird of Hawaii. In the 1950s this bird almost became extinct and there were only 30 left. Because of the con conservation efforts on Kauai there are now over 4000.
Well, there were only six different types of birds. There were hundreds of those birds on the rocks and the cliff and flying around. The Ranger was very excited about the red footed boobys. Did you know that they fly backwards when they’re meeting?
Interesting bird that they learned a lot about, but they unfortunately didn’t get to see it because it left the island. This was the moli also known as laysan albatross. Its nickname is the gooneybird; they spend most of their lives at sea. But they nest in Kauai from the island of Midway between November and July. They also saw a two week old wedge-tailed shearwater. It was cute and fuzzy.

Then since they were hot and thirsty, they went in search of iced coffee, and you know where they found it at Lapperts. After quickly consuming their drinks they decided they need to do some ice cream too.

In the meantime, Dany and Patrick rented some paddle boards and took them to the Hanalei River near the bay. They were able to rent the boards for two days, which means they can use them again tomorrow.

For dinner, Patrick and Dany wanted to go to a Kilauea burger joint so Bowman and John joined them and had a fine dinner.
There are a few stops that we did not make on this trip but are worth mentioning and I would consider stopping there next time. I’m here.
- Lygdate farm, Hawaiian grown cocoa and chocolate
- Callaway Jungle Oasis is a cocoa farm on the northern shore of the island closer to us
- Coconut Marketplace on the way to Princeville not far from Lihue airport
